Thinking of Charity? Look at Your Feet!

A simple pair of shoes can change a life.

Think about it; what would your life be like without shoes? In old western movies, a cowboy was rendered helpless without his horse and his boots. Soldiers are taught to care for their foot gear; keeping their feet in good condition is a priority.
Our planet has been bombarded by poverty and natural disasters, one after the other. Victims are usually given food and shelter, which is mandatory. Rescue organizations have come to the aid of victims with practiced skill and are to be commended.
Then there are other considerations, things people desperately need that may have been overlooked. Like shoes. Three causes have come to the forefront, and need to be a household word in the non-profit sector.

1. Soles4Souls
Soles4Souls was started by Wayne Elsey, an executive in the shoe industry who began his endeavor to provide shoes to disaster victims after watching a shoe wash up on shore during the Tsunami in Southeast Asia in 2003. Soles4Souls is dedicated to changing the world, one pair at a a time. Please visit their site for great ideas to get your community involved.

2. SolesUnited
Soles United has an unusual twist: all you do is donate your used Crocs and SolesUnited recycles the worn-out Crocs and the shoes are given to those in need. This is a great way for fortunate kids to get involved in giving AND recycling.

3. TOMS Shoes
The premise at TOMS Shoes is simple: buy a pair of shoes, and the company donates a pair. One for one.

It is such an easy thing to do: give a pair of shoes. You can donate wearable shoes, worn-out Crocs, or simply buy a pair and make an automatic donation. Take a minute and visit the sites; they have donation stations, marketing aids and more. If we all do a little bit to help, everyone will have Happy Feetz!

Contributor's Note

These are all great ways to give back, and I hope you check out these non-profits. I support them, and no, I do not profit at all. They do not know me.
